Murdoch Mysteries is slowly improving over the course of the season. I'm relieved, because I would hate to lose interest in yet another tv series. I don't watch that many and it's not like I want to fill all my time with tv, but sometimes it's nice to just relax and watch a show.
I am very relieved that they haven't decided to create a new romance for Murdoch. He seems the sort to take a long time to get over such things. On the contrary, there's a slight non-sexual tension between him and the new pathologist, because he doesn't quite trust her expertise - she's pretty new at the job - and she resents having her conclusions questioned.
One of the things I enjoy about the series is how they refer to things that might happen in the future, and then dismiss them as unlikely. "[That's] very bitter. Why would anyone drink coffee when they can have tea?" "I don't think anyone will want to play games involving murder. Too gruesome." (Talking about something like Clue, not actually killing someone.) And the last episode had the comment, "Gasoline is cheap. It will always be cheap."
One thing, though, that was played for laughs, made Murdoch behave out of character. He was showing surprise that a colleague was going to invest in private companies rather than good, safe government bonds. While I'm not surprised that he would scoff at the idea of Pepsi Cola being a sound investment, as a tinkerer/inventor he should have been able to see the potential of General Electric. |
