Heroes Reward Final

Edited February 4, 2013

There are now a few ways to get the book. You can read it right off this blog, and I will email a copy of the book to you, in pdf, upon request. moirajmoore@yahoo.com.

E-versions are available through Smashwords and can be downloaded to a variety of e-readers, including kindle, apple i-pad, personal computers, i-phone, sony, kobo, android, and others. You have the option of getting it for free or paying if you want. If you choose to pay, you can pick any amount you want. It's here:

https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/262941

You can get it on Amazon for .99, but I put that up there for advertising purposes. I'm getting emails from people who don't know that the book is available and I'm guessing amazon is the best free form of marketing out there. Remember you can get it on your kindle for free on smashwords. This is the amazon link:

http://www.amazon.com/Heroes-Reward-ebook/dp/B00BAVQD6S/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1360016786&sr=8-14&keywords=moira+j+moore

There was a snafu with the cover due entirely by my own idiocy. My friend Tracy McQuoid painted a brilliant cover for me, but when I came to the part of the manual - pretty close to the end - I knew that her cover didn't meet what I thought were a million specifications Smashwords needed. I assumed this would mean Tracy would have to repaint the cover, and I couldn't demand she do that. Also, I was desperate to get the book up this weekend. So I jumped the gun and hired someone to make the cover, only to be told shortly thereafter by Tracy that the specs weren't that complicated and she could have made the changes pretty quickly. So now I feel like a jerk.

This is the cover. If you don’t like it, it’s 100% my fault. I know it’s science fictiony but I like it.

There are mistakes in the book, of every sort you can imagine. Two friends have read the book, the editor went through it several times – seriously, this is the most gruelling editing process I have ever gone through – and I have read, revised, and proofread it so many times that I’ve lost count and I will lose what’s left of my mind if I go through it again. So, sorry about that.

People asked me to put a donate button on the blog, and so I have.

I have put copyright information only on the first chapter because I think putting that at the beginning of every chapter would be ridiculous and make the document even uglier. @COPYRIGHT 2012 MOIRA J. MOORE for the whole book.

Further information about copyright, credit, dedications and other stuff is also included at the beginning of chapter one.

This is the final book of the Heroes series. I hope you enjoy it.

HEROES’ REWARD
Shield Dunleavy Mallorough and Source Shintaro Karish have lived in Flown Raven for five years, protecting its residents from natural disasters and enjoying the lack of interference from both the council of the Triple S and the Emperor. When they are unexpectedly summoned to Shidonee’s Gap by the council, Lee and Taro learn that while they have been living at their isolated post, there have been a lot of changes in the world, changes that will drag them into unimaginable duties and unprecedented danger.

Thank you for doing that. :) And yes, I think I'm going to lay off the writing for a bit and do some reading. I have the book I want to get all lined up.

An e-version is in the works. I'm waiting for the manuscript to be reformatted by someone who isn't me.

I'll definitely be writing more books. I'm working on a new one now. Also, I'll probably be writing more heroes short stories, as well.

I'm sad that this will be the last of the series, but thank you so, so much for persevering and getting this book to us.

I haven't read the short stories you've posted, because I wanted to read them over the Christmas holidays but I'm sure I'll be reading Heroes' Reward much sooner than that -- I've been eagerly waiting to hear more about Lee and Taro.

Thank you also for making it possible for us to make a donation. You've worked long and hard on this, and it's nice to be able to offer you a financial token of appreciation for your efforts.

All the best,
Claudia

I was very sad when I wrote the last page of the first draft of this book. Kind of an end of an era thing. I'll still be writing the odd short story, though, so it's not like I'll be completely leaving the world behind.

And I have a bunch of other ideas I want to write about, too. I don't know that I'll like any other group of characters more than I will these guys.

I am honoured and flattered that people like the option of paying. Thank you.

One other thing people with paypal could do is just send you an amount of their choosing directly from their account. All they need is your e-mail address. :)

I felt like it had been a while since your last book in the series, so I started to look for the publication date for the next one. Then I saw on your site that I hadn't come across the latest book because ACE wasn't publishing it. It was actually your series that started to convince me to take another look at ACE books (because their size, appearances, and placements in my local bookstore didn't suggest well-written adult book). I usually don't write to authors to tell them how much joy their book brought me (and I haven't even gotten to reading this one yet), but I wanted you to know how amazing your series is and that plenty of people agree with me. I wish that I were able to have a copy of your last book in print & bound (I like having the whole collection together) and I "donated" (I prefer paid, because you worked so hard on the book) the full $7.99 it would have been in the store because the book is worth at least that much. Thank you for doing what so many other authors wouldn't have done: you finished the series and made it available to us. You did more than just self-publishing; for all your time and effort you were basically giving it away to the people that cared about it. I hope you make more money this way and that ACE realizes they should have finished the series. Thank you. Good luck with your future ventures.

Re: Thank you

I'm so glad you were so persistent in finding out about the last book. A disadvantage of self-publishing is getting the word out. I use Facebook, twitter, lj and my own website, but I keep getting messages from people saying they'd only now found the book. Of course, it took me a while to think of putting it on Amazon, because I'm an idiot, and I'm terrible at marketing myself.

Thank you for your kind compliments. They made me smile.

And thank you for the payment. It's truly amazing how many people choose to pay for the book when they can get it for free.

I never thought of writing to authors until people started writing to me. I've changed that habit since, because getting the comments is such a pleasure. Even the people who write to say they didn't like the book were so polite and sometimes funny and sometimes were an inspiration for change.

I've written this several times because it was such an important factor in writing the last book. I had had a plan from the first book and couldn't just leave it unfinished, I felt the readers were entitled to a complete series, and I would have always regretted it if I hadn't finished it.

Thank you.

Hi Moira,
Can you stick a 20.00 button on your donate tab? I'd like to donate 20 but I don't want to have to do 4 5.00's!

Re: Thank you

Hi Helen:

Wow. I'm blown away by your generosity. Thank you so much.

I've looked at the directions for changing the amounts on the donate buttons and it appears that I have to actually change the html code for the button, and given my complete lack of ability with anything more advanced than things like typing this email, I will screw it up in some way.

A friend of mine posted this: One other thing people with paypal could do is just send you an amount of their choosing directly from their account. All they need is your e-mail address. (Which is moirajmoore@yahoo.com)

If that isn't helpful to you, truly, I appreciate any amount you care to send.

Sincerely,

Moira

Hi Helen: I keep saying thank you, but seriously, thank you for going to such effort.

I did look at kickstarter, on your suggestion. I've never heard of it. I'm not sure how it would work with a novel, but I'm definitely looking at it more closely.

Cheers,
Moira

So I was reading a story online... and discovered at the bottom of the page was a link to purchase a copy of the story. Wandered into Lulu and discovered it could be purchased as an ebook or paperback. Looked at the tutorial for the paperback option: http://connect.lulu.com/t5/Video-Tutorials/Video-on-How-to-Publish-a-Book/ta-p/31793 . It looks easy, doesn't seem to require pre-purchase of books, it says it can be sold through Amazon and Nook and whatnot...

Here is the story I was reading, and there is an option to contact the author at the bottom of the page, so you could contact Christopher if you want to know whether it worked/was worth it. http://www.crvboy.org/stories/cpl/s010/c01.html

So, should you want to do the paperback bit and this works for you, I'd love your final book on my shelf with the rest of the series. :)

I've had a few people ask about the possibility of creating paper versions, and I've done just a little bit of research into it. I have to say that I don't feel good about the options, and there seems to be more complaints against the various companies than praise. Also, there hasn't been much of an interest in a paper version. Maybe I'll change my mind in the future.
