I just came back from a relaxing Christmas with my parents. I ate too much, of course, much of it highly caloric. I didn't drink much, though, which was unusual. I slept a lot, including lots of naps. And watched movies. I enjoyed the fourth Indiana Jones more than I expected, ridiculous bits notwithstanding. I saw an appalling and aimless movie called The Darjeeling Limited. I have decided to never again watch a movie described as a spiritual journey. That seems to be code for a series of disjointed scenes with a weak over arching narrative.
I read most of the book for the next book club meeting. It is hideously boring. I'm sure if I were a less shallow person I would find it profound and moving, but I am who I am, and it's boring.
I thought of a massive change, and some more minor changes, to make to book five. It'll improve the book immeasurably. That was what I was waiting for. So after I do my final check of book four, I'll ditch the team book (again) and get to work revising book five. At this rate it will be years before I finish the team book.
We spent an afternoon at my sister's. My two year old nephew has started making this odd (but extremely cute) trilling sound. My sister and her husband call it 'the baby dinosaur.' I couldn't figure out how he made the sound. He didn't use his lips or his tongue, so that had to leave his throat, but where would he have picked that up? It was, for him, a guarantee of attention every time he did it, and I was all for encouraging that. It was adorable.
So a good Christmas, overall. I hope those who observe the season can say the same. |

Loved all three of your Hero's Books | (Link)

Hi Moira, Just had to send you a quick message that I loved all three of your books and can't wait for the other two books to hit the store shelves. Even reading your books from a "guys" perspective I kept on hoping that Taro and Lee would get together. I hope Taro doesn't become a bastard and drop Lee for another woman - I think I would just start ripping up the book if that happened. :) My favorite passages from your books is the innocent physical interactions between the two main characters - how the act of touching relieves pain and stress in both of them. I hope your subsequent books builds on Taro's and Lee's unique abilities. Maybe Taro will be able to do more with his Source ability? Hopefully Lee will be able to better control the weather? Maybe, they will be able to telepathically talk to each other when he is channeling and she is shielding? Anyway, thank you again for the wonderful series so far! Regards, Ed

Hi Ed:
Thank you so much for dropping a line here. It's great to get a guy's perspective on things, especially when it comes to Taro's character. He's not based on anyone I know, so I worry that men won't find him someone they could empathize with.
Hopefully I can avoid inspiring the desire to destroy the books in the future. Have you heard of the term "wall slammer?" It's when a story has such an infuriating twist that the reader throws the book against the wall. I'm hoping to avoid that, too.
I can't really address the questions you asked, but I do like the idea of telepathy while channeling. It would certainly be handy.
Thanks again, Moira

I think it is wonderful that there is a forum where readers can converse directly with the authors. Isn't modern technology, i.e. the internet great? You mentioned that you will be doing two other books of the Hero's series from another point of view. Could one of them PLEASE be from Taro's perspective? It would be great to follow him as a child, to the Source Academy and ending when he chooses Lee as his shield. It would be nice to fully flush out his character. Thank you again for the great stories and I will keep a look out for the 4th book of the series in 2009. Regards, Ed | |
